In the Westward Expansion, who are the good and bad guys is complicated. The U.S. was coming out of the Civil War and wanted to expand Westward for more farm land. So they made a treaty with the Great Plains Native American tribes like the Lakota and Dakota. This treaty limited the Native Americans to only the Great Sioux Territory in the Dakota territory. Some Native Americans like Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull did not agree to the treaty and stayed out of the Great Sioux Territory and remained in the Montana territory.

Then the U.S had a economic depression. People found gold in the Black Hills which was in the Great Sioux Territory. The U.S then broke the treaty and allowed people to mine for gold in the black hills. Not only were miners entering their lands but also all the buffalo had been killed. Native Americans depended on the buffalo for their survival. So they moved to Montana and joined Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. Then the U.S government sent the Seventh Calvary to force the Native Americans back to the Great Sioux Territory. Lt. Colonel Custer was to lead the Calvary.

Custer found Sitting Bull and the rest of the tribes at Little Bighorn in Southern Montana. Custer spilt his forces to surround them and force their surrender. However there was a large number of Native Warriors from 1200 to 1800 and Custer had 700 men. Then the Natives repelled the first attack and then crossed the river to face Custer and the group he was leading. They fought the Calvary to Last Stand Hill where Custer had his last stand, and he and his group died. The Native Americans won the battle of Little Bighorn. The Native Americans were fighting to defend their way of life and the Americans were following orders from the president. That was the battle of Little Bighorn.
